Although not necessarily a practical move during a game, the rainbow is a fancy way to begin juggling. It's a move sure to impress your friends.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Stand directly over the ball.

  2. Step 2

Place your left heel on the front of the ball, and keep your foot on the ground.

  3. Step 3

Position the top of your right foot on the back of the ball so that just your toes are touching the ground.

  4. Step 4

Roll the ball 2 to 3 inches up your left heel with your right foot.

  5. Step 5

Lean forward so all your weight is on your left foot.

  6. Step 6

Flick your left heel up quickly with force as you lean forward. Your momentum and the heel flick sends the ball over the back of your head so that it lands in front of you, hence the "rainbow kick."

  7. Step 7

Take a step forward to regain control of the ball.

Tips & Warnings
  • Repetition makes this move possible. You have to get a feel for how high you need to roll the ball up your heel.
  • Flick your heel with force. When you initiate contact with power, the ball is more likely to go up and over you.
  • Avoid the temptation to practice the rainbow kick inside. It's somewhat of an erratic maneuver.

on 8/15/2006 When you're about to do a rainbow, it's a lot easier to roll the ball first, then continue with the skill.

on 8/8/2006 When doing the rainbow, make sure you lean forward and put weight on your foot in front of the ball. This will help it to go over. If it doesnt work the first couple of times, keep practicing because thats the key.

on 8/8/2006 I could not do the rainbow for a long time, and I never thought I would be able to do it, but I decided to practice whenever I had free time. After about a week, I could do it. Don't get discouraged you can do it!

on 10/1/2007 In most cases it's true when people say watch what you're doing, but the rainbow kick is definitely an exception. Whatever you do, don't look back because, you'll just end up distracting yourself and kicking the ball to one side or the other. Look forward and picture yourself doing all the moves.
