How to Volley a Racquetball

By eHow Sports & Fitness Editor

Rate: (1 Ratings)

The volley picks up the pace of the game immediately and - since the ball doesn't hit the floor - can catch your opponent off guard.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Racquetball Goggles
  • Racquetball Rackets
  • Racquetballs
  • Water Bottles With Squeeze Caps

Step1
Use the volley as an offensive shot with either your forehand or backhand.
Step2
Turn your body to a side wall.
Step3
Concentrate on the ball.
Step4
Prepare to hit the ball by taking a short backswing with your racquet.
Step5
Grip the handle firmly because the ball will be coming fast.
Step6
Swing at the ball only if it's waist-high or lower. If the ball is any higher than your waist, let the ball pass and plan to pick it up after it hits the back wall.
Step7
Aim for a spot low on the front wall.
Step8
Take a short swing at the ball. There's not much of a follow-through since you took less of a backswing.

Tips & Warnings

  • You need quick reflexes to volley the ball well.
  • The volley is more effective if you're in the front court when you hit the ball.
  • As a beginner or intermediate player, avoid the urge to volley every ball that you can. More often than not, you'll have an easier shot if you let the ball bounce.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.
