How to Change the Installation Path for Google Chrome

Though most applications give you the opportunity to change their installation paths, Google Chrome does not. However, where you obtain the downloaded installation file for Google Chrome determines its installation path: if you download and install the application from Google.com/chrome, the browser installs in the "Documents and Settings" folder; if you download the installation file from Google Pack at Pack.google.com, the browser installs in the "Program Files" directory.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a Web browser and navigate to one of the Google Chrome download sites -- either the Google Chrome site at Google.com/chrome, or the Google Pack site at Pack.google.com.

    • 2

Click the "Language" drop-down box and choose the language for the application.

    • 3

Click the "Download" button. The Terms and Conditions page opens.

    • 4

Click the "Accept and Install" button to accept the terms and click "OK."

    • 5

Click the "Install Package" button. The Google Chrome application is installed to the computer. The "Choose a Search Engine" page opens.

    • 6

Click on the "Choose" button for your desired search engine to set it as the default. Homepage and browser history settings are automatically transferred to Google Chrome from the default browser.

    • 7

Click the "Start Google Chrome" option to start the browser.
