How to Display the American Flag in a Conference Room
Although few may be familiar with the proper procedures of handling and displaying the flag of the United States of America, there is an entire group of laws regarding flag handling. When the American flag was first flown, no rules for display existed. In 1923, the National Flag Conference adopted a National Flag Code that was accepted by all the organizations present, including the military. It was not until 1942 however, that Congress passed laws regarding the use and display of the flag.

1
Place the flag at the front of a conference room at all times. It may be displayed in the center or sides of the room. If there are other flags displayed, different rules apply. If you only display the U.S. flag, place it in the front of the conference room. If the flag is displayed flat behind a podium, it should be affixed above the speaker, making sure that the flag hangs horizontally with the stars on the left. If from a staff, situate the flag to the speaker's right, facing the audience.
-
2
Measure the height of all the flagpoles in the display. The United States flag should be displayed on the highest pole or point of the group.

3
Place any other flag to the right of the U.S. flag if displaying it against a wall or across a stage. If the other flags on display are on poles of equal height, they should be placed to the right of the U.S. flag. When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they are to be flown from separate staffs of the same height. The flags should be of approximately equal size.
