How to Bustle a Veil

A bustled veil will keep your train from dragging on the ground.

Bustling a lengthy wedding veil not only gives the bride a classic wedding look, but can also help preserve the cleanliness of the veil by keeping it from dragging on the ground. A bustled veil is essentially a knot that is tied by the back of the waist that keeps the veil's train from getting dirty and stepped on. A bustled veil can oftentimes be purchased as an additional option on your wedding gown, although you can bustle it yourself for much less money.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the safety pin in the waist of your dress by your lower back.

    • 2

Measure a 16-inch length of 1/2-inch white satin ribbon and cut it.

    • 3

Place the white ribbon through the safety pin and tie a knot off at the end of the ribbon in order to form a loop. See the Resources section for instructions on how to tie off an adjustable loop.

    • 4

Place the veil on top of your head and and pull the veil's train through the knotted ribbon loop.

    • 5

Pull the veil up through the loop until it is no longer touching the ground or has reached your preferred length. The veil should stay in place in a large pouf, but if it is slipping you can tighten the knot in the ribbon's loop to help keep it in place.
