How Do I Make Birthday Party Hats?

When you are putting together a birthday party for a friend or family member, you can end up spending a lot of money on disposable party supplies such as hats. One way to save money while not sacrificing the look of the birthday party is to make party hats using inexpensive craft supplies. This also enables you to customize the hats to suit the particular style and color of the party decorations.

Things You'll Need

• Poster board
• Measuring tape
• Scissors
• Acrylic paint
• Paint pens
• Stapler
• Elastic string

Instructions

1. Cut out a triangle measuring 24 inches on all sides from poster board. Trim one side of the triangle so it is curved.

2. Paint one side of the triangle form using acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry for 30 minutes.

3. Draw designs such as spirals or swirls onto the painted side of the triangle form using paint pens. Allow the paint to dry for 30 minutes.

4. Curl the triangle form into a cone, allowing the curved edge to be the wide part of the cone. Staple the cone in place along the ends where they touch.

5. Cut a piece of elastic string measuring 6 inches long. Staple the ends of the string onto the edge of the cone party hat. Position the ends so they are opposite from each other along the edge of the cone.

6. Repeat the process to create as many cone hats as you need.
