How to Export Text From CS5 With a Transparent Background
One of the ways the Adobe Creative Suite 5 (or CS5) puts creativity into its designers' hands is by allowing designers to strip out, take apart and reassemble images and documents. In Adobe Photoshop, you can pick and choose from the layers that comprise your work to grab only the parts required for your next work. With a design that has both pictures and text, you can use CS5 to export just the text, keeping it on a transparent background to let the words give you the big picture.
Instructions

1
Start Photoshop CS5. Click the "File" menu and select "Open." Browse to the PSD Photoshop document with the text to export. Double-click the file name.
-
2
Review the bottom right corner of the workspace. If the "Layers" palette is not open, click the "Window" menu and select "Layers" to open it.
-
-
3
Check for the text layer(s) on the palette. A text layer is symbolized by a "T" in a white box with words as the layer name.
-
4
Right-click a non-text layer. Select "Delete Layer" and click "Yes." Repeat this to delete all non-text layers from the palette until you have only text on a transparent background remaining.
-
5
Click the "File" menu. Click "Save As." Pull down the "Format" menu and change the file format to "PNG," which supports the transparent background. Change the file name and saving location of the document if desired and click the "Save" button.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't already have text with a transparent background, you can also create some to export. After opening Photoshop, click "File" and "New." Set up the dimensions of the document as desired. From the "Background Contents" menu, choose "Transparent" and click "OK." Click the "T" tool on the "Tools" palette to open the "Type" toolbar, type the text and follow the rest of the instructions.
Your CS5 document must be in a PSD or PNG format -- not an image file such as JPG -- to export the text. Most image files are flattened, which means you cannot access the text to strip it out.
