How to Cut and Tie Your T-shirt in Weird Ways
If you're stuck with a closet full of plain, boxy T-shirts, you can turn them into form-fitting fashion statements with a few well-placed cuts. There's no need to relegate a shirt with a great design on the front to a life of service as a nightgown or to spend lots of money on a cute top to wear out dancing. If you have a pair of sharp scissors handy, you can transform your shirt within minutes.
Instructions
-
V-Neck from Crew Neck
-
1
Lay the T-shirt flat on a table and smooth out any wrinkles.
-
2
Cut off the sleeves of the shirt, just outside the seam. Leaving the seam intact will keep the shirt from revealing too much skin.
-
-
3
Cut a V-neck into the front and back of the shirt at the same time. Place the scissors at the outside edge of the neckband and make a diagonal cut that is approximately as long as your hand, from your wrist to the tip of your middle finger. Cut the other side of the V in the same way.
-
4
Cut all the way down the middle back of the T-shirt, starting at the tip of the V-neck.
-
5
Make three horizontal cuts across the back, stopping about 5 inches from the side seams of the shirt. Put on the shirt and have someone tie the horizontal strands together, tying each strand to the one across from it, so you have three knots down the middle of your back and the T-shirt is fitted to your body.

6
Cut all the way around the neck, just outside the neckband, to remove the band from the shirt. Cut off the bottom hems of the sleeves and the bottom hem of the shirt.
-
7
Cut a square out of the back of the shirt, starting 5 inches in from the sides and ending just below the bra line.
-
8
Cut four 1-inch vertical slits into both sides of the back, 2 inches in from the edges of the cut-out square. You are making holes for laces, so space the holes evenly from top to bottom. The distance between the cuts will differ depending on the size of the shirt.
-
9
Make a horizontal cut 1 inch below the top of the square of fabric that you cut out. Cut across the square until you are 1 inch from the edge, then turn the fabric and begin cutting downward vertically. One inch from the bottom edge, turn and cut horizontally again. Continue to cut around the entire square in a spiral pattern to create a long string of fabric.
-
10
Put on the shirt and have someone lace the fabric strip through the cut-out holes, just like lacing a shoe. Tie the fabric into a bow at the bottom.
