How to Close a MacBook and See It on an Attached Display

Apple portable computers, like the MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, all come with display ports that allow you to connect your laptop to an external monitor. The Mac operating system supports mirrored and extended desktop setups. You can also opt to close the MacBook to view your entire desktop on an attached display. You may find this useful if you want to work on a larger monitor.

Instructions

1. Connect the MacBook to a wall outlet with its power adapter.

2. Turn on the computer.

3. Connect the external keyboard and mouse to the MacBook.

4. Connect the external display to the MacBook's display port on the left panel of the computer.

5. Power on the external display.

6. Close the lid of the MacBook when the computer's desktop appears on the external display.

7. Click the external mouse or tap a button on the external keyboard to activate clamshell mode. The desktop image reappears on the external display.
