How to Insert a Vertical Bar in Dreamweaver

Planning a Web page is a mix of artistry, architecture, marketing and design, all combining to capture attention as Internet surfers click through. Corralling all of the elements of a Web page can take time, but once you have everything in place, using Adobe Dreamweaver to gather and lay them out takes just minutes. With Dreamweaver, adding elements such as a vertical bar that separates your page into two columns or small and larger panels requires just selecting the bar and making a place for it.

Instructions

    • 1

Start Dreamweaver, and review the "Open a Recent Item" column on the splash screen. If the page to insert a vertical bar onto is listed, double-click it. Otherwise, click the "Open..." link, browse to the page and double-click the name of the file.

    • 2

Click the "Insert" menu at the top of the work area, then click "Image."

    • 3

Browse to the vertical bar image file, and double-click the file name. If Dreamweaver pops up a path-saving message, click the "OK" button or click the "Don't show me this message again" check box. The vertical bar is inserted onto the page.

Click the bar to activate it, and drag it into place on the page. Note whether text, images, buttons and links have been disrupted by the insertion and dragging, and adjust where necessary.
