How to Make Edible Pictures
Decorate a birthday cake with an edible image of the guest of honor or transfer a picture of the birthday boy's favorite music star onto the cake instead. You can also decorate desserts, such as cupcakes, brownies and petit fours, with edible pictures. Hand-draw pictures, such as cartoons and decals, onto transfer paper to put on the dessert or print a photograph onto a piece of frosting paper for a detailed, edible rendering.

-
2
Insert a piece of edible frosting paper into your printer and print the photo from the computer onto the frosting paper.
-
-
3
Lay the frosting paper on top of your cake, cupcakes or other treat, with the smooth backing facing upward and the rougher edible image facing downward onto the dessert.
-
4
Smooth the image over the dessert with your fingers.
-
5
Peel away the backing of the edible frosting paper gently.
Piped Icing Image
-
6
Place the picture on your work surface and lay transparent transfer paper on top of the picture.
-
7
Insert the icing tip into the pastry bag. Fill it about half full of icing and twist the top to keep the icing in the bag.
-
8
Align the icing tip over one corner of your picture and squeeze gently on the pastry bag to release some of the icing.
-
9
Trace around the details of the entire picture. You can use a single outline color for the image or switch between different colors by filling different pastry bags with various colored icings.
-
10
Pick up the tracing paper and lay it face down on your dessert. Press gently to leave an icing outline of the picture on the cake. Remove the tracing paper. Color in the picture with the icing in the pastry bags.
