How to Get Sound with Boycott Advance

Boycott Advance is a program that emulates Nintendo's Game Boy Advance portable console on personal computers. You can use this software to develop and test games for the Game Boy Advance platform or to play games that amateur developers create and distribute online. Boycott Advance has the ability to emulate the sound chip in the Game Boy Advance and output the sound through your computer's speakers. If you hear no sound in a game, check your settings in Windows and Boycott Advance to troubleshoot the problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Boycott Advance. Open the "File" menu, select "Load ROM" and double-click the ROM file you want to load.

    • 2

Click the speaker icon in the lower-right corner of the screen to open the Windows mixer. Drag the volume slider up.

    • 3

Confirm that your speakers are turned on if you have externally powered speakers connected to your computer.

    • 4

Click the "Options" menu at the top of the Boycott Advance window and place a check next to "Sound Enable."

    • 5

Click the "Options" menu again. Click "Sound Channels" and place checks next to "Enable DSound A," "Enable DSound B" and "Enable GBC Sound."

Tips & Warnings

  • If these options are not available, you may not have the latest version of Boycott Advance installed. Download the latest version from the official website.

  • It is rare for an emulator to have 100 percent compatibility with all available games. If Boycott Advance is unable to produce sound with a particular game, try a different emulator.
