The Garmin StreetPilot c550 was introduced in 2006.

The Garmin StreetPilot c550 is a handheld mobile GPS with features including preloaded City Navigator NT street maps, an extensive database detailing various points of interest (POIs); the ability to make hands-free calls when connected to a compatible Bluetooth wireless device, and a traffic receiver to alert you to possible delays. Another basic function of the c550 is the ability to create a route to get you from your current location to either your home or another chosen destination. This is done by utilizing the options available with the touchscreen display menus.

Instructions

    • 1

Press and hold the "Power" button on the side of the c550 to power the device on. Touch "Where To?" on the display to begin the process of finding a destination. Select a category for your destination. Categories include your home, a point of interest, recently found or favorite destinations, and a specific address.

    • 2

Touch "Go Home" to select your home address as your destination. If you have not already set your home address, follow the on-screen prompts to do so. Once you have entered and stored this information, the c550 will create the route from your current point to this address when you choose the "Go Home" option.

Select a sub-category if you choose either the "Food, Hotels...," "Recently Found" or "Favorites" category. Options will include POIs such as food, fuel, lodging and bank/ATM locations; select one to narrow the search, and select ensuing options to narrow it further until you have selected a location. Alternately, touch "Spell Name" and begin typing the name of the location. Options will appear based on the letters you type. Select the option you want when you see it on the display. Touch "Go" to have the GPS display the route to that destination.

    • 4

Touch "Address" to select a specific address as the destination for your route. Begin the process by selecting the country and state/province (if necessary), then touch "Spell City," enter the name of the city with the touchscreen keyboard and press "Done." Select the city, and then repeat the process to enter the address and street name. Touch "Go" when finished to create the route to that address.

    • 5

Touch "Menu" on the map page and select "Where To?" again to add a stop to your route. Repeat Step 2, 3 or 4 to add the location of your choice, and touch "Yes" to add the stop before your original destination, or "No" to add it as a second destination after the first.

Tips & Warnings

  • Look for the yellow diamond or red triangle road alert icon while on your route. This signifies that a possible better route is available; touch that icon to change your current route to a suggested one.

  • Consult your owner's manual for more information on the features and options available with the c550, as well as graphics detailing the visual layout of the map and the various menus.
