How to Be a Minimalist on Facebook

Be a minimalist on Facebook to maintain a high level of privacy within the social media site. Limit the amount of information that you allow others to see. Pare down the pictures and videos you've uploaded in the past and be selective as to which you post to your profile. Accept friend requests only from people you know personally to keep your friends list manageable.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign in to Facebook. Navigate to your profile and click "Edit Profile." Select each of the tabs along the left side of the screen beginning with "Basic Information" and selectively remove information you believe to be superfluous or unnecessary. For instance, you might remove instant messaging information from "Contact Information" or all but your most recent job from your work history within "Education and Work."

    • 2

Return to the main profile page and choose "Photos" or "Videos." Browse through existing photo and video albums and click the "Delete This Photo" button beneath any photo or video you don't think is essential to someone who visits your profile. Delete a whole photo album by clicking "Edit Album" and choosing "Delete Album." Be judicious about which pictures and videos you upload in the future.

Click the "Friends" link on your main profile page and scroll through your list of friends, deleting any you don't know personally. Removing people from your social network whom you don't know or recognize makes your profile more minimalist in nature.
