Jalapeno peppers can turn red when left to ripen on the plant.

Jalapeno peppers leave behind a burning sensation when consumed due to the capsaicin in the seeds and membranes. Deseeding peppers helps remove some of the heat. Removing the seeds from the peppers also allows you to create stuffed jalapenos. The seeds must be removed carefully because they can cause irritation to the skin. Once you remove the seeds, discard them or save the seeds to add heat to salsa or other dishes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wear gloves to protect your skin from the capsaicin inside the peppers.

    • 2

Rinse the jalapeno peppers under cool running water.

    • 3

Slice the top 1/4-inch off the jalapeno pepper to remove the stem.

    • 4

Cut the jalapeno pepper in half lengthwise to reveal the seeds.

    • 7

Cut the jalapeno peppers into the desired size.
