How to Cover a Cake Platter With Foil
Covering a cake platter can make the difference between scraping frosting off the platter and trashing a frosting-ridden piece of foil. Tin foil is sold in a number of colors that complement frosting colors and can also add to the appearance of a cake, particularly when creating a themed dessert. Line your cake platter with tin foil to prevent a messy cleanup that requires scrubbing crystal or silver heirlooms and take advantage of the pop of shiny color that foil can add to a cake's presentation. 1
Measure the circumference of a circular cake platter or the length and width of a square or rectangular cake platter with a tape measure.
-
2
Detach enough tin foil from the foil receptacle so that you have at least 1 inch more foil than the circumference or length and width of the platter. Detach two separate pieces of foil if the width of the platter is greater than that of the foil.

-
3
Arrange the foil loosely on top of the platter, leaving excess foil hanging over the ends and sides of the cake platter. Overlap foil pieces, if using more than one. Press down on the foil with your hands and smooth it outward to the sides to create a tight, level surface that outlines the shape of the platter.
-
4
Fold the excess foil tightly over the sides and ends and crease it on the underside of the platter edges.
