How to Get Rid of Fireplace Odors
The smell coming from your fireplace never seems to get better, only worse. You may notice it even more in warm weather on humid or rainy days. Some fireplace odors are from creosote, which is produced from the steam and soot of burning logs. Neutralize the odor with vinegar. Sweep the floors and the walls of the hearth with a chimney brush to remove soot and ashes from the fireplace.

Dampen an old towel with white distilled vinegar.

Scrub the walls and floor of the fireplace with the towel moistened with vinegar.
