Chiffon is a light and delicate fabric often used for women's dresses and other clothing attire. Its light and porous nature makes the fabric comfortable to wear during hot weather and can easily absorb bright colors during the manufacturing process. Unfortunately, the porous nature of this fabric also leaves it susceptible to marker stains. Further, chiffon's delicate structure prevents any type of harsh stain removal as this can ruin the fabric. Fortunately, you can use a series of stain removal procedures that maintain the chiffon's structural integrity. Remove marker stains as soon as possible for best results.

Tear several pieces of paper towel and place them on a flat surface. Place the stained section of the chiffon over the paper towels.

Wet a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and apply directly to the stain. Continue dabbing the stain with the cotton ball. Do not attempt to rub the stain as this can cause damage to the chiffon. Continue until you remove as much of the stain as possible.

Turn the chiffon clothing item inside out and place inside a washing machine-safe netted laundry bag. Place the chiffon and bag inside your washing machine and add laundry detergent.

Set your washing machine to the hottest temperature your chiffon clothing item can handle. You may need to read the tag or label on the chiffon to determine this temperature. Since chiffon can be made from a variety of materials (i.e. cotton and silk), the maximum temperature can vary.

Remove the clothing item from the washing machine when the washing cycle has completed. Hang the chiffon outside or indoors to allow it to air-dry. Do not place in the dryer as this can shrink the fabric.
