1
Walk with the proper modeling posture by keeping your shoulders down, head high and back straight. Many models choose to also point their pelvis slightly forward, but this is not necessary for professional modeling. To practice keeping a good posture, sit, stand and walk with a book on top of your head.

2
Keep your balance by focusing on an object straight ahead of you in the distance and walking toward it. This keeps your eyes from wandering and allows you to walk in a straight line down the runway.

3
Maintain a facial expression appropriate for the particular modeling show. Some designers want serious and dramatic faces, while others prefer a happy and relaxed smile. Your face should be cool, calm and collected in most instances.
-
4
Walk with long strides to show a state of self-assurance and confidence. Do not overdo your style of walk using exaggerated movements, as this detracts from the clothes you're modeling.
-
5
Use your peripheral vision to recognize when you're at the end of the runway. Stop for just a moment with your hand on your hip, dipping your hip slightly and turn swiftly to walk back down the runway.

6
Practice your modeling walk in a variety of heels and shoe styles to perfect the runway walk. If you're not experienced wearing heels, start with a low one-inch heel and slowly move up to higher heels and different shoe styles. While practicing your walk, put one foot in front of the other as if walking on a tightrope.
