How to Disable Cookie Stuffing on vBulletin

Cookie stuffing is a technique in which posters on user-generated content sites like message boards spam the boards with links to fraudulent marketing sites. One common victim of this is vBulletin forums. Because anyone can sign up for a vBulletin forum, malicious users can quickly take over your forum's boards with cookie stuffing. For this reason, the site offers a free add-on to disable cookie stuffing.

Instructions

    • 1

Log into your vBulletin admin account. Download the "Cookie Stuffing Detector" add-on (scroll down to the "Download Now" section to find this add-on). Save the file on your computer; you do not need to open or run it.

    • 2

Click "Product Manager" on the vBulletin website, then click "Import." Click "Browse" and select the XML file you downloaded. Click "Open."

    • 3

Return to the vBulletin admin screen when the upload completes by clicking "Back." Then, click "Options" to take you to the screen that allows you to edit add-ons.

    • 4

Click the box next to "Cookie Stuffing Detector." The program will enable and cookie stuffing will now be disabled.
