How to Shrink a New Era Titleist Hat

How to Shrink a New Era Titleist Hat thumbnail
Fitted caps are not adjustable, but they are shrinkable.

Most New Era hats, including Titleist ones, come in predetermined and generic sizes designed to fit a variety of heads. However, it is not uncommon for one size to be slightly too big and the next size down, slightly too small. When this occurs, you can simply buy the larger of the two and shrink it slightly to conform to your head. The basic idea is to get the hat wet and allow it to dry, all while wearing it on your head. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bath tub or sink with warm water.

    • 2

Dip the bowl of you hat into the water, but not the bill. If the bill gets wet, it will soften and lose its shape.

    • 3

Remove the hat from the water, and put it on your head.

    • 4

Leave the damp hat on your head for at least a couple hours while it dries. Allow it to air dry; do not use a laundry dryer or a hair dryer.

    • 5

Take the hat off once it has completely dried. It should be conformed to your exact head size.

Tips & Warnings

  • Another way to shrink a hat to your head size is to wear it in the rain and allow it to dry on your head.

  • Do not use washing machines, dishwashers, blow dryers or any other machine appliance that dispenses water or heat. Doing so may cause your hat to become misshapen and discolored.
