Everyone has experienced the heartbreak of tearing or damaging a favorite pair of jeans. Some jeans lend themselves to the worn, torn look and other jeans can be patched without ruining the overall look of the pants. Another alternative is to reweave the torn or ripped section of denim. This repair is much less noticeable than a patch, and can save a favorite pair of jeans from the trash pile. The repair is done by hand sewing and is easily accomplished by people with little sewing experience. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Thread
  • Needle
  • Scissors

Instructions

      Thread a thin needle with thread that closely matches the color of the denim.

      Bring the needle through the material roughly 1/2-inch below the start of the tear or hole.

      Push the needle back into the fabric. Repeat until the hole is covered completely by vertical stitches.

      Pull the needle up 1/2-inch to the right of the last vertical stitch.

    • 5

      Weave the needle through the vertical threads. Stitch the horizontal thread under one vertical stitch and over the next one. Repeat until all vertical stitching is completely covered by basket-weave horizontal stitching.

  • Lay the jeans on a flat surface before you begin.
