How to Remove a Metal Air Hole From a Drum
The air hole plays an important part in a drum. Hitting a drum causes pressure inside the drum; the air hole acts as a vent so air pressure doesn't damage the drum. However, you need to remove the metal air hole, along with all the other parts, if you are re-covering the drum in a different wrap. As the metal air hole is an important piece, be careful when removing it to avoid damage to the rest of the drum.

1
Remove one of the drumheads on the drum, using a drum key to loosen and remove all the tension rods. You can remove either the top or bottom head.
-
2
Place the drum on a flat surface, such as a table or floor, so the open end of the drum is facing upright.
-
-
3
Place a socket on the inside of the drum and on the metal air hole. This socket should match the size of the metal air hole.
-
4
Tap the socket lightly using a hammer. This pushes the metal air hole out the front of the drum.
