How to Optimize Your Database on GoDaddy

If you've noticed your WordPress, Joomla or phpBB site that is hosted with GoDaddy has become sluggish, you may need to optimize your MySQL database tables. GoDaddy uses the popular "phpMyAdmin" database administration software to allow users to interact with their MySQL databases. You can optimize your database by using the "Optimize Table" function that is built into phpMyAdmin. This function clears blank database entries, speeding up database access and allowing your website to generate dynamic pages more efficiently.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch your Web browser and navigate to the GoDaddy website.

    • 2

Type your GoDaddy username or customer number and password into the text fields at the top of the GoDaddy website, then click the "Log In" button.

    • 3

Hover your mouse cursor over the "Hosting" menu, then click "Hosting Management."

    • 4

Click the "Launch" button in the "Control Center" column, next to the website domain name entry for which you want to optimize the MySQL database.

    • 5

Hover your mouse cursor over the "Databases" menu, then click "MySQL."

    • 6

Click the "Manage via phpMyAdmin" link next to the database you want to optimize.

    • 7

Type in your MySQL database name and password, then click the "Go" button.

    • 8

Click your database name link on the left side of the phpMyAdmin page.

    • 9

Locate the "Overhead" column on the right side of the phpMyAdmin page. Some of the tables listed in the database will have a value listed in the "Overhead" column.

    • 10

Click to place a check next to each table entry that has a value listed in the "Overhead" column.

    • 11

Click to select "Optimize table" from the "With Selected:" drop-down menu at the bottom of the tables list to begin the optimization process. Allow a few moments for the table optimization to complete. A message will display on a new page indicating that the selected tables have been optimized.

Close the Web browser window or tab that contains the phpMyAdmin interface to complete the GoDaddy database optimization process.
