How to Take a Snapshot on a Mac

Just like Windows offers the ability to take snapshots of your desktop called screenshots, the Mac OS X operating system offers this same ability, though it uses a different key combination to do so. Whether you want to capture the state of a software program that's open or just take a picture of a memorable event that occurred on screen, pressing the key combination will allow you to do so.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the window that you wish to take a snapshot of on your Mac computer, or minimize all windows if you wish to take a snapshot of your desktop.

    • 2

Press the "Command," "Shift" and "3" keys together to save a snapshot of the entire screen to your desktop.

    • 3

Press "Command," "Shift" and "4" together, and then press the spacebar and click on the window that you wish to take a snapshot of. A picture of that window, not the entire screen, is saved to your desktop.
