How to Cook an Egg in a Custard Cup
The versatility of eggs seems endless. You can scramble them, boil them, fry them, poach them, and yes, you can even bake eggs. Baked eggs, also known as shirred eggs, are standard fare in France and can be adapted to your preferences. For this simple technique, you bake the eggs in custard cups for individual servings, top with a little milk to keep the eggs moist and season however you'd like. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 1 egg
- Custard cup
- 1 tbsp. milk
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
- Additional seasonings, optional
- Shredded cheese, optional

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly grease a custard cup.

Crack an egg carefully into a custard cup.

Season with a dash of salt and pepper.

Pour 1 tbsp. of milk over the eggs.

Place the custard cup in the oven for 12 to 14 minutes, based on how set you want the eggs to be. The whites should be solid and the yolk at least slightly thickened before serving.

Tips & Warnings
Feel free to add additional spices to the egg as you see fit, such as garlic, lemon pepper and minced chives, as well as your favorite type of shredded cheese.
