How to Get a Heracross in "HeartGold"
In the "Pokemon" video games, a heracross is a beetle-like creature that flies from tree to tree sucking sap. In battle, the heracross excels in physical strength and can toss most opponents around with its large horn. In addition, as a fighting- and bug-type Pokemon, heracross is resistant to fighting, ground, bug, grass and dark attacks. To obtain a heracross in "Pokemon HeartGold," you must use the head butt ability to shake trees in various parts of the Johto and Kanto regions. Every now and then, a heracross will drop from a tree.

3
Navigate to the center of the Ilex Forest to find a move tutor.

4
Allow the move tutor to teach one of your Pokemon the head butt ability.
-
5
Travel to routes 33, 42, 44, 45, 46, 47 or Azalea Town in the Johto region. Alternatively, you can go to routes 7, 16, 28, Vermilion City or Celadon City in the Kanto region.
-
6
Head butt any small trees you see. Some trees contain wild Pokemon, including heracross. Repeat this step until a wild heracross falls from a tree.
-
7
Weaken the heracross with attacks. It will only be between levels 5 and 15, so don't overwhelm it with heavy attacks. Heracross is especially prone to flying, fire and psychic attacks. Moves of these elements may knock the Pokemon out before you have a chance to capture it.
-
8
Throw a PokeBall to capture the weakened heracross.
