How to Crochet Girls' Sweaters
Sweaters are an ambitious undertaking for the crocheter. This pattern is most appropriate for the crocheter with some basic knowledge and experience. Before beginning this sweater, practice your chain, single crochet and double crochet stitches. With a solid foundation, you'll be crocheting up a sweater for your daughter, niece or other special girl in your life, in no time. Remember, depending on the size of the child for whom you are crocheting, you may need to adjust the size of the pattern.

1
Chain 47 stitches using size K crochet hook. Double crochet in the fourth chain from the hook and continue with double crochet stitches across the rest of the stitches on the hook. This is the first complete row. After double crocheting across the first row of chain stitches, turn your project to start working back in the other direction.

2
Work in double crochet stitches until your piece measures 23 inches from the beginning. Fasten off your work. This is the back panel of your sweater.

3
Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for the front panel of the sweater. However, make the front panel three rows shorter than the back panel and stop before fastening off. Turn your piece to continue working the next row.

Double crochet the first 15 stitches then skip the next 15 stitches. Double crochet the remaining 15 stitches. Beginning with the next row, decrease one stitch from each edge. After decreasing one stitch, double crochet 14 stitches, skip 15, double crochet 14 and fasten off, completing the front panel.

Chain 25 stitches using the size K crochet hook. Single crochet in the second chain from the hook. Continue single crochet stitching in each stitch across and turn. Chain three and turn. Chain three, skip the first single crochet stitch and work two double crochet stitches in the next stitch. Double crochet the next stitch and work two double crochet stitches in the next stitch, repeat across, chain three and turn.

Work in double crochet stitches. At the same time, increase one stitch at both end every other until you have 46 stitches on your crochet hook. Then, continue working evenly until your piece measures 17 inches and fasten off. This makes one complete sleeve. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for the second sleeve.
