How to Close Your Yahoo Mailbox
If you have not used your Yahoo! Mail account for some time, you may decide to delete it because you have found another mail service that you prefer or for another reason. Yahoo! provides a page where you can delete your account immediately. Keep in mind, though, that it can be helpful to notify your old Yahoo! Mail contacts that you have a new email address.

Navigate your Web browser to the Terminating Your Yahoo! Account Web page (see Resources). The page displays a login prompt; enter your Yahoo! Mail address and password to continue.

Check the "Your Yahoo! ID" field at the top of the page to confirm that it displays the name of the account you want to delete. Once you delete a Yahoo! Mail account, it cannot be restored.

Click the field under "If so, please confirm your identity with your password" and type your Yahoo! password.

Click the "Type the code shown" field and type the alphanumeric characters displayed in the image above.

Click the "Terminate This Account" button under the word "YES" to close your Yahoo! Mail account and all related Yahoo! accounts.

Tips & Warnings
Your Yahoo! Mail account is linked with all of the other Yahoo! services that you may use, such as Yahoo! Messenger and Monster. Be certain before deleting your account that you no longer intend to use any Yahoo! service. Although you can create a new account at any time, you cannot reactivate the account you deleted.
