How to Make Polka Dot Soap
Create your own decorative polka dot soap bars using a melt-and-pour glycerin base. With the right mold and a little patience, you can make the polka dots stand out from the soap bar by coloring the dots separately. The dots are not merely embedded in the soap bar; they are raised above the top of the bar. Add your choice of fragrance to the polka dot soap bars or leave them fragrance-free.

1
Fill a bottom pan of a double boiler half full of water. Bring the water to a boil. Carefully place the top pan of the double boiler on top of the pan with boiling water. Place three small squares of melt-and-pour glycerin soap base into the top pan. Cover the top pan and turn the burner heat to low.
-
2
Follow the same process with a second double boiler, but add seven squares of glycerin soap base to the top pan. Let the soap base melt completely in both pans. The pan with only three squares will melt first; this is polka dots for the soap, so begin working with this pan first.

3
Stir 5 drops of essential oil into the melted polka dot soap base. Omit this step if you prefer to make fragrance-free polka dot soap.
-
4
Stir 2 drops of food coloring into the melted polka dot base. Continue mixing in food coloring until the melted glycerin reaches a shade you like.
-
5
Place rubbing alcohol into a small spray bottle. Spritz the top of the colored soap base with the alcohol to help eliminate air bubbles in the finished soap.
-
6
Spoon the polka dot base carefully into the dot cavities along the bottom of the polka dot soap mold. Spray the filled dots with rubbing alcohol.
-
7
Follow the process to add fragrance oil and food coloring to the melted glycerin in the other pan. Make the soap a different color, or leave it clear, so that the polka dots stand out. Spray the top of the mixture with rubbing alcohol.
-
8
Pour the glycerin into the soap mold on top of the polka dots. Finish with a spritz of alcohol. Leave the soap in the mold to harden overnight.
