How to Keep Walnuts in the Freezer thumbnail
Walnuts can easily go rancid if not stored properly.

Freezing nuts is very straightforward and simple. While certain things, like fruits, need to be spread out on wax paper while frozen to ensure no sticking occurs, nuts -- including walnuts -- freeze incredibly well in bulk. Once they are in the freezer, you can use the nuts for an entire year. Frozen walnuts can be used in recipes as usual or thawed if they are to be used as garnishes. Best of all, the freezing process doesn't alter the deep and hearty flavor, so you won't have to compromise the quality of the recipe. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Add the desired amount of walnuts into a plastic freezer storage bag. Make sure the walnuts are completely dry.

    • 2

Press the air out of the bag just before you seal it. Mark the bag with a marker so you know the date that you need to use it by.

    • 3

Place the bag of walnuts in the freezer. If you need to use the walnuts, remove the desired amount and let them thaw for 10 minutes. Immediately replace the original bag back in the freezer.
