Talk to her when she is feeling down to lift her spirits.

Sometimes a phone conversation is all it takes to cheer up a girl. Whether she is your girlfriend or just a close friend, it can be heartbreaking when she is not her normal, chipper self. Help bring her out of her funk by chatting with her over the phone. Depending on her mood, she might be reluctant to talk; however, after a few minutes of your upbeat tone, she will be back to her chatty self and thanking you for your insistence on talking.

Instructions

    • 1

Talk with a smile in your voice. Smile when you talk because it will reflect through your voice, which will help to calm her mood. Your smile exudes kindness, which shows her that you care. Knowing that someone cares about her and her mood will raise her spirits.

    • 2

Ask her what is wrong, but do not feel rejected if she says that she does not want to talk about the issue. Girls take their time voicing their feelings, especially if they recently were hurt or rejected. Asking her what is wrong is not bad, but do not press the issue if she does not want to talk about the problem.

    • 3

Redirect the conversation to a funny story. Taking her attention away from her sadness will cheer her up. Think of something humorous that happened to you recently, or tell a funny pet story. If you share an inside joke, or have a funny story that you both experienced, bring up the memory. Making her laugh will help cheer her up.

    • 4

Tell her to smile and hold the smile for five seconds. When you smile, whether naturally or unnaturally, it is difficult be upset. Every time she starts to sound sad, remind her to smile.

    • 5

Give advice if you feel it is appropriate. Tell her that whatever is bothering her eventually will go away. While she might take your advice with a grain of salt, the idea will be in her head, which will make her feel better.

    • 6

Listen to what she has to say. Sometimes the best thing you can do to help someone who is upset is to listen. Just knowing that you are there might be all she needs to feel better.

    • 7

Ask to take her out to do something fun or just to clear her head. Taking her out into the fresh air will help her think straight and relax. Suggest a visit to an ice cream stand or a walk around the block. If she is in the mood for more fun, suggest a movie or dinner.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not press her to talk about her problem. This will only make her want to get off the phone.

  • When she is ready to hang up, let her. She might want to be alone.
