Slippers and socks keep feet warm and toasty in the winter. Some people wear thick slipper socks for walking around on cold floors. Cottage slipper socks are made using thick yarn, and keep you feet warm even in the coldest weather. Wool yarn makes the slipper socks even warmer. These sock are easily made, and fit adult feet between size 7 to 11.

Instructions

    • 1

      Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook. Catch the yarn facing the yarn skein with the crochet hook, and pull it through the yarn wrapped around the crochet hook. This starts the first loop on the crochet hook.

      Catch the yarn facing the skein with the hook, and pull it through the loop on the hook. This is a chain stitch. Make 29 more chain stitches.

      Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook, and slide it through the second chain closest to the hook. Catch the yarn facing the yarn skein, and pull it through the chain stitch. Catch the yarn facing the skein, and pull it through two loops on the crochet hook. Catch the yarn facing the skein with the hook, and pull it through the remaining loops on the crochet hook. This is a double crochet. Put one double crochet into each chain stitch all the way down the row. Put six double crochet stitches in the last chain stitch on the row. Place a double crochet stitch in the back of each chain stitch all the way down the row. Place five double crochet stitches in the chain stitch where you put the first double crochet stitch.

      Slide the crochet hook through the side of the first double crochet stitch, and catch the yarn facing the yarn skein. Pull the yarn through the stitch, and the loop on the crochet hook. This makes a slip stitch that holds the sides together, and completes row one.

      Make two chain stitches, and place a double crochet stitch into the stitch on row one next to the crochet hook. Put a double crochet stitch into the next 27 stitches on row one. Place two double crochet stitches into each of the next six stitches on row one. Place one double crochet stitch into each of the next 27 stitches on row one. Put two double crochet stitches in the next five stitches on row one. Slip stitch the first and last double crochet stitch together, and row two is finished.

      Measure the width of the narrow side of the slipper sock. If it is 4 inches or larger, go to the next step. If it is under 4 inches, make two chain stitches, and place a double crochet stitch into the stitch on row one next to the crochet hook. Put a double crochet stitch into the next 27 stitches on row one. Place two double crochet stitches into each of the next 12 stitches on row one. Place one double crochet stitch into each of the next 27 stitches on row one. Put two double crochet stitches in the next 11 stitches on row one. Slip stitch the first and last double crochet stitch together, and row three is finished.

      Chain two stitches, and place one double crochet stitch into each double crochet on the last row. The slipper sock starts bending up. Slip stitch the first and last stitch in the row. Repeat this process for two more rows.

      Make two chain stitches, and place a double crochet stitch in the first four stitches on the last row. Slip stitch the fourth double crochet stitch into the fifth stitch on the last row.

      Chain two stitches, and place a double crochet into each of the last four double crochet stitches. Slip stitch the last double crochet to the side of the shoe. Repeat this step five more times. This forms the top of the slipper sock on the front side. Cut the yarn 4 inches away from the last stitch on the side facing the skein. Weave the yarn into the existing stitches.

      Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook. Catch the yarn facing the yarn skein with the crochet hook, and pull it through the yarn wrapped around the crochet hook. This starts the first loop on the crochet hook.

      Push the crochet hook through the middle stitch on the back of the slipper. Catch the yarn on the side facing the yarn skein, and pull it through the loop on the crochet hook. Make two chain stitches, and place one double crochet stitch into each stitch on the last row around the open section of the slipper. Slip stitch the first and last stitch on the row together.

      Make two chain stitches, and alternate placing two double crochet stitches and one double crochet stitch into each stitch on the last row. Slip stitch the first and last stitch on the row together. Repeat this process for five rows.

      Cut the yarn 4 inches away from the last stitch on the side facing the skein. Weave the yarn into the existing stitches. This finishes one cottage slipper sock. Make a second slipper sock the same way.
