How to Know What Size Waist You Are
Finding a pair of jeans or pants to fit your waist size can be difficult. Most use different sizing types in a variety of ways. They can be Small to Large, sizes such as 0 to 14 or true sizing that uses waist measurements. Measuring your own waist can be done quickly and easily to calculate your true size. Stand in front of a full length mirror. Wrap a fabric tape around your waist, at the smallest point, just above the belly button and below the ribs. The mirror will help you to see that the measuring tape is not crooked.

Wrap around the waist making sure it is not too loose or too tight. Start with the "0" and wrap around the waist until it meets with the other end. Be sure to wrap it around your skin and not clothing. Breathe easily and do not suck in your gut to achieve proper measurements.

Write down your circumference in inches on a sheet of paper. The average waist size for women is between 27 and 33 inches, for a man, it is 31 to 38.
