How to Do Margins in Excel

Similar to word processing features, Microsoft Excel allows you to adjust the print margins for your spreadsheet. These margins ensure sufficient borders for aesthetic appeal, as well as leaving space for notes or hole punches. Reducing the margins can also squeeze out a little more space on the page, so you can fit that slightly larger spreadsheet onto a single 8.5 by 11 printout. The option for changing margins lies in Excel's "Page Layout" tab.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel.

    • 2

      Click the "Page Layout" tab.

    • 3

Click "Margins" from the Page Setup group and select "Custom Margins." You can also choose "Pre-configured Margins" from the drop-down menu.

    • 4

Enter your desired margin width in inches. You can change the top, bottom, left and right margins, as well as those for any headers or footers in the spreadsheet. You can enter figures manually or click the small arrows next to each field to add values incrementally.

    • 5

Click "OK" to set your margins. You can also click "Print Preview" to see how the configured margins appear before printing them.
