How to Fix a Dress That Is Clinging to Stockings
It is quite embarrassing and frustrating to discover that your dress is clinging to your stockings. This is caused by static cling. Gas or electric heat reduces the moisture in the air inside buildings during winter months. This makes static cling more of a problem during cold weather, although it can occur during any time of the year. Getting rid of static cling is not difficult if you use the right products.
Things You'll Need
- Lotion
- Fabric softener sheet
- Wire coat hanger
- Hairspray
- Anti-static aerosol spray (optional)
Instructions

1
Rub lotion on your legs and hips directly on top of your stockings. This reduces the dry conditions that exacerbate static cling.
-
2
Rub a fabric softener sheet over your legs and stockings. Fabric softeners work well in reducing static cling even outside the dryer.
-
-
3
Swipe under your dress and along your stockings with a wire coat hanger. This equalizes the positive and negative electrons and gets rid of cling.
-
4
Mist the outside of your dress with hairspray. Hold the can several inches away so it doesn't leave a wet spot.

Tips & Warnings
Purchase an anti-static spray at a discount or clothing store. It comes in a small, aerosol can that you can keep in your desk drawer at the office or carry in your purse.
If you do not have access to other products, simply dampen your hands and rub them over your stockings. This temporarily increases the moisture and keeps your dress from clinging.
