How to Get Through the Two Gates in Oblivion in Silorn

The ruins at Silorn are a location in the open-world, role-playing game "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion." You're sent into the ruins to retrieve a black soul gem, as part of a quest for the Mages Guild. Completing the quest requires accessing an area behind a set of gates. You must head deeper into the sub-levels of the ruins to find a way back up to the raised balcony housing the switch that operates the gates.

Instructions

    • 1

After entering through the main door, proceed down through the ruins, killing the six or seven Necromancers inside. They are high-level enemies, and very powerful, so work through slowly and tackle them individually or in pairs. Trying to rush through or take them all at once will likely result in death.

    • 2

Proceed through the corridors until you reach the large hall in the central chamber. The gates on either side of the bridge will display the "This Door Is Opened Elsewhere" message, if you try to operate them. Head to the opposite end of the large hall, and move through the corridor into the annex room. Defeat the waiting Necromancer, and head through the door behind him into Silorn Sedorseli.

    • 3

Work slowly through Silorn Sedorseli, killing all the Necromancers and collecting the considerable quantity of treasure. Work your way to the first big room containing two Necromancers. Defeat them, and then press the button on the south-west pillar. Proceed through the hidden door to the next hall. Kill the waiting Necromancer, and head through the corridor on the northern wall. Stand on the pressure pad, to open the sliding wall and move into the next corridor.

    • 4

Head north along the corridor, killing the Necromancers along the way, until you reach the door that will return you to Silorn. Head through it, and you will find yourself on the raised balcony. Step on the pressure pad to open the gates, and drop down to the bridge.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your Athletics skill is high enough, it is possible to jump up to the balcony. This will prevent you from having to head into the lower levels of the cave.
