The peak harvest time for strawberries occurs between June and July, although some varieties may produce fruit later in the summer. The sweet and tart red berries are delectable eaten raw, but they can be used to make cakes, pies, jams and other desserts. Things You'll Need

  • Paring knife
  • Colander
  • Wax paper
  • Baking sheet
  • Plastic wrap
  • Freezer bags or containers

Instructions

    • 1

      Remove the green stems and leaves from the strawberries with a paring knife and discard.

      Place stemmed strawberries in a colander and rinse thoroughly in cold water.

      Remove any bruised or damaged strawberries from the colander and discard.

      Place the strawberries on a wax paper covered baking sheet and cover with plastic wrap.

      Place the baking sheet in a freezer, and freeze the berries for at least 12 hours.

      Remove the berries from the baking sheet and place in freezer storage bags or plastic containers.

      Label each bag or container with the date using a permanent marker. Then return them to the freezer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Frozen strawberries should be used within one year of storage.

  • Slice the berries before freezing, if desired.
