Start with a clean face. You should exfoliate two to three times a week if you have normal skin; less if you have dry, sensitive skin, and more often if you have very oily skin. Follow with a good moisturizer with an SPF to protect your skin from sun damage. Even on cloudy days, you are exposed to UV rays.

Choose your tools. Some makeup artists apply liquid foundation with a brush to get a smooth, even finish, but this can be time consuming and tricky to do at home. If you need a lot of coverage, use a brush in areas around the eyes and trouble spots. For lighter coverage, use a sponge or your fingertips.

Apply concealer, if you use it, and blend it in. Once it's blended, apply foundation in small amounts; you can always add more if you need more coverage. Blend the foundation outwards and down, and do not stop at the jawline -- keep blending down the neck.

Apply pressed powder to set your foundation by lightly dusting with a large brush. Only apply powder once you have finished the entire face and applied any blush or bronzer. Pressed powder will help keep the foundation from sliding off your skin and letting oil shine through.

Tips & Warnings
Your foundation shade should not be darker or lighter than your natural skin tone. If you want a more tanned or bronzed look, apply a light bronzer after your foundation is dry.
Do not test foundation on your wrist, which is not the same color as your face. Test it on your jawline instead.
