How to Downgrade New Messaging on Facebook

Facebook's new messaging system lets users set up Facebook email addresses that people outside of Facebook can use to send messages to a user. The emails will appear in the user's main messaging inbox. If Facebook cannot verify the sender's email address, the email will appear in your inbox with a warning. You can change your privacy settings to prevent certain people from emailing to your Facebook account.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to Facebook. Select "Account," then select "Privacy Settings."

    • 2

Click "View Settings" underneath "Connecting on Facebook."

    • 3

Click on the arrow on your current setting for "Send You Messages" to see all settings options. Select "Everyone," then "Friends of Friends," or "Friends Only." "Everyone" allows all people to send you email using your Facebook address; "Friends of Friends" and "Friends Only" restrict who can send you email. Email sent by people who are not in your privacy settings will not be delivered to your inbox.
