How to Modify Thread Panes in Thunderbird
The Thread pane in Mozilla's Thunderbird email management program displays a list of emails -- in your Inbox or in some other folder -- along with a handful of information about each email. Clicking a message in the Thread pane brings up its contents in the Message pane below. With a few clicks, you can change the type of information displayed; the criteria used to sort the emails; the style in which replies are displayed; and the size of both the Thread pane itself and its individual columns.

Sort the messages in the Threads pane according to different criteria by clicking the column headers at the top of the pane. You can sort messages by subject, by author, by date, read status and other criteria.

2
Change the columns of information displayed in the pane by clicking the button on the far right and selecting the columns you want from the drop-down menu. Click and drag the dividers between columns to change their size.

Click the icon on the far left of the pane to toggle between displaying emails as individual messages and displaying them as nested conversation threads along the style of a message board. Replies will appear below and indented from the message they are replying to.

Click and drag the dividing bar between the Threads pane and the Message pane below it to change the size of both panes. If you drag the bar all the way to the bottom, it and the Message window will disappear, reserving the entire area for the Threads pane.
