How to Cook Salmon Fillets With Cajun Seasoning
For fish lovers, salmon fillet is tasty seasoned simply with salt and pepper, but if you enjoy spice, Cajun seasoning takes this fish dish to the next level. Cajun seasoning is a blend of hot and savory spices used in many dishes native to the Cajun people of Louisiana. Although the specific ingredients vary slightly from region to region, the blend almost always includes cayenne pepper, guaranteeing a lot of heat. You can easily purchase a pre-mixed Cajun seasoning at the grocery store and make Cajun-seasoned salmon at home in minutes. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Large heavy skillet
- 4-5 oz. salmon fillet
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 2 tbsp. Cajun seasoning
- Spatula
- 1/2 lime

Season the salmon generously with Cajun spice seasoning, to your taste.

Add 2 tbsp. of olive oil the the pan over medium-high heat on the stove.

Add the salmon to the hot oil with the flesh side down. Slightly shake the pan back and forth every so often, until the the sides of the fish start to turn opaque, about four to eight minutes. Peek underneath with a spatula to make sure the flesh side has become slightly blackened.

Flip over the salmon onto the skin side and cook for another four to eight minutes, or until the fish is uniformly opaque throughout.

Remove from the pan and sprinkle with the juice of 1/2 lime. Serve hot.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't have pre-mixed Cajun seasoning, make your own by combine 4 tbsp. cayenne pepper, 3 tbsp. black pepper, 2 tbsp. garlic powder, 1 tsp. onion powder, 1 tsp. paprika, 2 tbsp. dried parsley and 1 tsp. dried oregano.
