How to Combine Three Images in Premiere

Adobe Premiere Pro is a video editing software capable of simple clip editing or complicated composite layering. Layering images on multiple tracks allows you to combine them using the "Opacity" control. You might want a video clip on the bottom track, a superimposed image on track two and a logo blending the three together. The "Opacity" control has a "Blend Mode" that offers multiple adjustments such as color change, brightness control and light effects.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a Premiere Pro project and select "File," then "Import." Locate the images you want to combine, select "Open" and the media will be displayed in the "Project" bin.

    • 2

Click and drag the first image to "Video 1" on the timeline. Adjust the length of the image by clicking either edge and dragging the bracket arrow left or right.

    • 3

Move the second image to "Video 2." There are two ways to adjust "Opacity," and the easiest is the adjustment on the image in the timeline. Using the twirl-down arrow to the left of "Video 2," open the track and locate the yellow line in the middle of the image. Hover over the line, click it and drag the line down slowly. The image on "Video 1" begins to appear, combined with "Video 2." Push the line up again and try the additional "Effect Controls" adjustments in step 4.

    • 4

Select the "Effect Controls" bin, which is usually nested behind the "Source" monitor. Click the "Video 2" image and the embedded video effects for that clip will appear. Open the twirl-down arrow to the left of "Opacity" and the "Opacity" control and "Blend Mode" will be displayed.

    • 5

Click the twirl-down arrow to the left of the "Opacity" adjustment. Type a new percentage under 100% or open the second arrow and drag the slider adjustment. As soon as the "Opacity" number changes, you will see "Video 1" appearing through "Video 2."

    • 6

Highlight the "Blend Mode" pull-down menu in "Opacity" to reveal multiple adjustments that can add light, color changes and transparency. Select a "Blend Mode," re-adjust "Opacity" and experiment with these additional effects.

    • 7

Click and drag the third image to "Video 3" and repeat steps 4 through 6. Adjustments in "Effect Controls" may have to be changed on all three layers in order to get the desired blend effect.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have multiple images and would like to rename the video or audio tracks for easier identification, right-click and "Rename."

  • "Opacity" adjustments can be applied to the image on the bottom layer. However, because this is the base layer all three images will darken substantially.
