How to De-Solder With a Heat Gun
De-soldering with a heat gun is a process that requires a bit of patience and some safety precautions. Melting the solder with the heat gun can produce toxic fumes and irritate your eyes if not wearing safety protection. The solder can be melted in just a few minutes so you can remove any computer chips or other parts that are fastened with the solder.

Heat the solder with the heat gun on one side of the computer chip, holding the heat gun about 1/2 inch from the solder to melt the material, and remove the melted solder with a small hand vacuum as it is melting.

Repeat Step 1 for the opposite side of the computer chip until the solder is removed.

Lift the computer chip away from motherboard with needle nose pliers.
