Nurse's uniforms are usually scrubs that are loose-fitting and comfortable

Consignment is when you have an agreement with another seller to display your items in their store for part of the profit. Consignment can be done in a retail shop or online. Items sold in consignment shops vary from sports equipment to household items and clothing. Nurses uniforms are usually well-made, serviceable items that have a long shelf-life if taken care of properly. Selling nurse's uniforms on consignment can be a lucrative way of conducting business.

Instructions

Find a store to sell your items. You want to make sure that the store has a lot of foot traffic, and is located in a busy area. Since you are selling a specific item, it would be helpful if the store was near a hospital or doctor's offices. Be sure that the inside of the store is well-organized, with merchandise that looks updated. For example, if there's dust on a lot of the shelves, it's a good bet no one shops there or the owner is slovenly; neither of which is beneficial to you selling your items in their store.

Speak to the owner. Most consignment shops will have a standard agreement for you to sign. Since you are paid a predetermined percentage of the actual selling price, you share in the income your items generate. It is helpful if you go into the agreement with an idea of how you want your items priced. Price will be determined by the demand for the item, how much it's been previously used and how it looks. Be certain you know how much you will be getting as a percentage of the sale price. Also find out if it is a 30, 60 or 90 day consignment.

Inventory your items. On your spreadsheet, inventory the size, description and item, how much the store is selling it for and when it was sold. Go into the store frequently and see if your items are selling or not. If the owner isn't adhering to the agreement (i.e., if you notice your uniforms have been sold and you're not receiving any money), find a new shop. Most owners want the revenue your items bring them on consignment, but it is always wise to be careful. Stores that keep computerized records are usually your best bet.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can get more money for your items if they are clean and if simple sewing repairs (such as replacing a button) are done before you set them out to sell.
