Articulating your thoughts effectively can improve your relationships.

Articulating your thoughts allows you to communicate with others clearly and effectively. If you are unable to express yourself concisely people may have a hard time relating to you or understanding where you are coming from in a discussion. Becoming more articulate requires careful examination of your communication strengths and weaknesses and practicing to improve the way that you relate to the people you deal with.

Instructions

    • 1

Explore your feelings and thoughts to gain a thorough understanding of your emotions. If you are not able to fully comprehend your own feelings, you are less likely to be able to accurately articulate them to someone else. Take your time and get to the root of your emotions before attempting to articulate them to someone else.

    • 2

Determine the most appropriate setting for expressing the particular feeling you are experiencing so that both you and the person you are communicating with will be comfortable. For example, if you try to articulate your anger in an area where others can hear your conversation, the person you are trying to communicate with may be too embarrassed to listen attentively and understand what you are saying.

    • 3

Practice saying what you want to say out loud by yourself before your try explaining it to others. Look at yourself in a mirror and explain to yourself how you feel. Write down your feelings on a piece of paper as they come into your stream of consciousness. Read over what you wrote to determine whether or not it makes sense.

Realize that you are not always going to convince those to whom you are expressing your feelings to feel the same way you do. Don't think that you failed at articulating yourself just because someone still does not agree with you.
