How to Add Smiley Faces on Facebook From a Computer

Smiley faces, or emoticons, are facial expressions that writers use to symbolize their moods or emotions. Generally, creating an emoticon requires a combination of letters, numbers and punctuation. Some instant messaging programs, such as Yahoo! Messenger or AIM, offer smiley face buttons that automatically insert emotions in your messages. Although Facebook Chat doesn't contain smiley face buttons, you can insert emoticons in your messages by using the correct key patterns.

Instructions

1. Press and hold the "Shift" key and press the ";" key. Continue holding the "Shift" key and press the ")" key. The punctuation symbols create a happy face that looks like this: :).

2. Press and hold the "Shift" key and press the ";" key. Continue holding the "Shift" key and press the "9" key. The punctuation symbols create a sad face: :(.

3. Press and hold the "Shift" key and press the ";" key. Press the "?" key. The punctuation symbols create an unsure face: :/.

4. Press and hold the "Shift" key and press the "." key. Continue holding the "Shift" key. Press the ";" key and then press the "9" key. The punctuation symbols create an angry face: >:(.

5. Press and hold the "Shift" key and press the ";" key. Press the apostrophe key. Press and hold the "Shift" key and press the "9" key. The punctuation symbols create a crying face: :'(.

6. Press and hold the "Shift" key and press the ";" key. Press the "-" key. Press and hold the "Shift" key and press the "8" key. The punctuation symbols create a kissing face: :-*.

7. Press and hold the "Shift" key and press the "," key. Press the "3" key. The punctuation symbols creates a heart: <3.

8. Press and hold the "Shift" key and press the ";" key. Press the "V" key. The punctuation symbols create a Pac-Man face: :V.
