How to Wear a Khanga
A khanga, or kanga, is a traditional garment worn by African women. This large rectangle of fabric is usually brightly colored and can be worn in many ways, as a dress, skirt or on the head. Muslim women often wear a colorful khanga in addition to their flowing black robes as statements.

Hold one edge of the khanga against one of your hips and wrap the fabric around your body. A properly sized khanga will wrap 1-1/2 times around you. As you wrap the khanga, roll the outside edge under the inside edge to secure it. This makes a khanga skirt.

Wrap the khanga as for a skirt, only hold the fabric under your arm, at the top of your bust line. Wrap it around your body 1-1/2 times, rolling the outer edge under the inner edge. This makes a khanga dress.

Make a shorter skirt by folding the khanga in half lengthwise. Wrap the skirt around one hip, holding both edges at the other. tie in a knot at the hip. The fabric ends should drape over the opening.

Fold the khanga in half lengthwise four times, turning it into a narrow strip. Place the center of the strip across your forehead and cross the ends at the nape of your neck behind your head. Bring the ends forward, one over each shoulder. This is a way to wear your khanga as headgear.
