How to Make a Picture for Scrabble Tile Pendants

Use Scrabble tiles to make a one-of-a-kind gift.

A Scrabble tile pendant is a unique and interesting piece of jewelry. Use the tiles as a way to display your own small drawings, graphic designs, computer artwork or photographs. After the pendants are made, string them from a simple sterling-silver chain or braided rope. Give the pendants as priceless gifts, or sell them online or at craft shows. Before you start, consider purchasing a tile pendant that's already been made from an online seller so you can see what the finished product will look like.

Things You'll Need

• Scrabble tiles
• Small pictures, artwork or scraps of wrapping paper
• Box cutter with a sharp blade
• Combo glue, sealer and finisher like Mod Podge
• Diamond glaze
• Clear multi-purpsose adhesive like E-6000
• Sterling-silver or silver pendant bails

Instructions

1. Stock up on Scrabble tiles. These can be found by buying old sets of the game at garage sales or at online auction sites. Tiles can also be ordered directly as replacement parts from the game manufacturer.

2. Choose the artwork to adhere to your Scrabble tile. This needs to be cut to 18 by 20 mm. Carefully cut the artwork to the precise size using the box cutter. Use slow careful strokes with the cutter.

3. With a small paintbrush, paint a coating of the combination sealer, glue and finisher product onto your artwork. This will make the artwork curl at the edges, but it will lie flat again once it is completely dry. Let the picture dry for a full 12 hours.

4. Paint a thin coat of the multipurpose adhesive on the side of the Scrabble tile without the letter. Gluing your art over top of the letter may result in the embossing showing through. Immediately stick the artwork on top of the glue, pressing down firmly. Place the tile, artwork side down, on a sheet of wax paper.

5. Let the tile dry for another 6 hours. Then, paint a coat of diamond glaze over the artwork. This will need to dry for 24 to 48 hours.

6. Turn the tile over and add a drop of the E-6000 glue. Quickly press the pendant bail into the glue drop. Set the tile back on the wax paper and allow it to dry for another 12 hours.

Tips & Warnings

• E-6000 glue has a strong odor and fumes. You may want to use this product outdoors.
