1
Purchase your gown before deciding on any embellishments. The veil is intended to complement the gown rather than visually compete with it, so it's a good idea to have the dress handy when selecting your beads, lace, ribbons and so on. If your gown is ornate, keep the embellishments subtle. However, if your gown is simple, you can make your veil as fancy as you like.

2
Mirror a few embellishments from your gown, such as a crystal pattern or pearl accents. Using elements similar to those in your gown help to tie the two pieces of your attire together for a congruent look. Secure beads, crystals and pearls to your veil by sewing them in place, allowing at least five stitches for each bead to ensure that they stay secure through your walk down the aisle and your evening of dancing.

Select a lace similar to the lace in your bridal gown and add a lace edge to your veil. Measure the outside edge of your veil so you know how much lace you need and purchase a bit extra. This will allow you to line the lace up symmetrically around the veil's perimeter. Pin the lace in place and sew it to the veil by hand. This prevents the delicate fabric from snagging, as it may do if you use a sewing machine.

4
Choose a ribbon edge to complement your gown. A ribbon edge gives your veil a simple, classic look, but you can also play with the style a bit by incorporating one of your wedding's theme colors. Sew the ribbon on by hand, as ribbon displays stitch marks made by sewing machines prominently.

5
Sew a luxurious flower to the veil's comb. This look works especially well for beach weddings and vintage-style birdcage veils. Select a flower similar to one found in your bouquet or wedding decor and sew the base to the veil's comb. To ensure that the flower stays put, sew with nylon thread and weave your thread through the comb's teeth and through the veil's netting.

Tips & Warnings
Do not use a hot glue gun to embellish your veil, particularly if you are having an outdoor ceremony. The Sun can melt this type of glue and leave you with a sticky mess on your head.
